Monkeys of a Vengeful Sea
This piece was an attempt to create a chaotic scene and yet maintain a loose sense of organization. Elements of contrasting styles are collaged throughout the scene, but are always repeated to create nested structures. The waves the legless figure bobs in are organic and disorgranized, but because they are created through repeated use of outlined strokes they create a semblence of pattern. Similarly, a rythm emerges in the placement of the monkeys and vines. The row of windows that cut through the space heighten the juxtaposition of organic chaos and imposed order, and give the piece a hallucinatory feel.
