The Reach
he Reach is all about human interaction. In it, I imagined a network of interactions between different people as an organic structure reaching up from a hostile terrain. In the piece, the years of human relationships move vertically in space- growing skyward and branching off into new generations even as the older generations sink back down into the earth. The vertical growth represents the forward movement through time. The sinking arm supporting the structure suggests an older generation of human interaction receding into the past. I didn’t use motion lines or blurs to suggest the upward movement of the structure in this piece because the structure is growing very slowly; the dance happens over the course of a lifetime.
